These small accordion hinge books are a labor of love; each presents a bird that I see, hear, and commune with frequently on my morning bird watching hikes at a nearby lake. I’ve painted the paper with acrylics and then letterpress printed the name and call or song of the bird at Iota Press in Sebastopol, CA. Harking back to my life as a librarian, I’ve printed the colophon on a slip that slides into a book pocket. There is an intimacy to these small books that makes them beg to be cradled in the hand. The accordion hinge also allows them to be displayed with the pages fanning out as a small sculpture.
